Experience life in Elcito with this recently restored semi-detached stone house, an ancillary ruin (to be purchased separately), and breathtaking views.
The restoration was completed in 2025.
Elcito—often called the “Little Tibet of the Marche”—is undoubtedly one of the region’s most magical and captivating places. The village originated between the 11th and 12th centuries as a fortified stronghold and defensive outpost for the nearby, ancient Abbey of Santa Maria di Valfucina; it sits atop a rocky outcrop at an elevation of 824 meters above sea level, within the territory of San Severino Marche. Its name derives from *elce* (holm oak), the tree that characterizes the local flora.
In recent decades, the village has been rediscovered and revitalized through preservation projects that have kept its medieval architecture intact. Today, it is a popular holiday spot and hiking destination, serving as an ideal starting point for excursions to the nearby Canfaito Forest and the Abbey of Roti—a haven for nature lovers, hikers, and history enthusiasts.
Its handful of residents—few enough to count on one hand—look after a small colony of cats; indeed, these felines act as the true feudal lords of the place.
It is precisely these unique qualities that have earned the village the nickname “Village of Silence”—a silence, however, that is rich in charm and spirituality.
The local architecture reflects both defensive needs and climatic conditions. The stone houses feature exceptionally thick walls and small doors and windows, designed to withstand military attacks and harsh mountain winters.
This iconic building stands at the very edge of the village, perched atop a majestic cliff. An open panorama showcasing the natural beauty of the Monte San Vicino and Monte Canfaito Regional Reserve—a truly breathtaking view.
The dwelling is spread over two floors, totaling 70 sqm gross (62 sqm usable area). The ground floor features a living room with a kitchen and two double bedrooms, along with a staircase leading down to the lower level—carved into an ancient rock cave—which houses a striking bathroom with direct access to the outdoors via the cliff face.
If desired, the property can also include a beautiful, ancient outbuilding; this could be left in its current state—resembling a shamanic totem—or rebuilt as a small additional dwelling or workshop, on two floors for a total area of 70 square meters. The price for this outbuilding is €15,000.
The home is equipped with electricity, mains water connection, pellet stove heating, an electric water heater, an induction cooktop, Wi-Fi, and a septic tank sewage connection.
